Roy les Betulacees

Roy les Betulacees

  • DOB: 2018
  • Size: 52 lbs
  • Color: Dark fawn with black mask
  • Titles: USAR HRD I/T, TD, RN, BN
  • Personality: Mischievous, curious, tolerant, sweet, gentle, independent, likes exploring
  • Drives: Hunt, Prey
  • Hips: OFA Excellent
  • Elbows: 0/0 (Normal)
  • Spine: Normal
  • Roy’s OFA Results

Roy was purchased from les Betulacees at age 8 weeks and is a “fan favourite” for his handsome looks and silly personality. He has the cutest prancy focused  heel imaginable! I chose him as my USAR HRD dog because of his strong hunt drive, bold bark, and tendency to climb on the USAR agility equipment on his own. His ability to climb and his precise, careful approach to maneuvering makes him very agile on the rubble piles. Roy also has very flashy obedience and has just begun his competitive obedience career, earning his AKC Rally Novice and Beginner Novice titles at his first two trials. Roy earned his AKC TD in Fall 2021. Roy is a very gentle soul but has a powerful tug game that no one is prepared for due to his size and precise nature. He is a serious little thinker when working out a problem, but a silly goof most other times. A son of Baxter Ostraryka and Dara Meggan Bohemia, he has inherited the sweet temperament and incredible athleticism of his parents. I am so very thankful and fortunate to have this excellent male as my foundation stud.

Females

QuitaQuita les Betulacees

Quita les Betulacees

  • DOB: 2017
  • Size: 51 lbs
  • Color: Deep fawn with full black mask
  • Titles: BH, FPr1, TD, CD
  • Drives: Predominantly prey and hunt
  • Personality: Sweet, busy, tireless, nonstop, intelligent, playful, strong
  • Hips: OFA Good
  • Elbows: 0/0 (normal)
  • Spine: Normal
  • Quita’s OFA Results

Quita was imported from Belgium at age 2. Her breeder, Theo Berkers, had been training her in IGP which I have continued to do.  I hope to trial her for an IGP 1 and 2 in fall of 2021. Quita has started her competitive obedience career, earning her AKC CD right out of the gate, and is well on her way to her CDX.  She also shows in conformation and currently has 8 AKC championship points to her name. I’m planning to show her in Canada as well! In the meantime, Quita has learned detection skills and is being finished as a narcotics detection dog. Quita is exceptionally beautiful; the perfect example of what a Malinois should be and what I hope to produce.

Tyykikas

Tyylikas les Betulacees

  • DOB: 2020
  • Size: 52 lbs
  • Color: Fawn sable
  • Titles: None yet
  • Drives: Extremely strong defense. Intense play and focus. She’s still developing so more to come!
  • Personality: Sweet, STRONG, forward, pushy
  • OFA: Too young yet

Tyylikas is the youngest member of the operation.  She has a very very strong personality but is incredibly trainable and takes immediately to any task I set for her. Tyylikas took to detection faster than any dog I have ever handled, and ditto with tracking! We are really looking forward to her detection validation and next year’s tracking season. IGP is probably in this girl’s future!

Terva

Isengard’s Ulu

  • DOB: 2020
  • Size: 51 lbs
  • Color: Light fawn, dark and full black mask
  • Titles: TD
  • Personality: Cuddly, contact seeking, engaged, playful, gentle, and SWEET! Loves tug and chasing.
  • Drives: Hunt, play, fight
  • OFA: Too young yet

“Terav” is a Tervuren by breeding, but is actually the result of a Terv/Groen breeding. She has a LOT of Malinois in her pedigree and Embark identified her as 100% Malinois!  She is an absolute delight to have around. She is intelligent, sweet, well mannered and full of life. She’s the glue that holds the pack together – she gets along with everyone and is universally loved. Her off leash recall is unbelievable – she turns on a dime the second she hears her name. She has proven to be a natural talent in tracking. She earned her AKC TD on her first try in 2021 and will be going for TDX and VST in 2022. She will also start her competitive obedience and conformation career in 2022. I’m very much looking forward to seeing what this beautiful and talented young lady brings to the table over the course of her career.

Vetruv

Missal’s Happy Warrior

  • DOB: 2018
  • Size: 65 lbs
  • Color: Dark fawn sable
  • Titles: TD2, BN, RN
  • Personality: Calm, sweet, cuddly, engaged, sensitive, with a fiery side!
  • Drives: Hunt, Prey
  • Hips: OFA Good
  • Elbows: 0/0 (Normal)
  • Spine: Normal
  • Vetruv’s OFA Results

“Vetruv” is a tall lady with a big personality! She’s friends with everyone who steps in the door and wins them over with her beseeching eyes and gentle hugs. She’s an incredible tracker, getting her CKC TD at 11 months of age and completing the track in under 3 minutes. The pandemic put her tracking competition career on pause but now we are back up and running – she earned her AKC TD at the AKC Malinois National in 2021. She will be going for a Canadian TDX and AKC TDX this fall. I can’t wait to get to the VST (hard surface) because that is where she shines. She’s also starting her competitive obedience career and she LOVES bite work! This versatile beauty really has it all. I expect that she has a bright future!

Oria de la Vallee de Luvry

Oria de la Vallee de Luvry

  • DOB: 2018
  • Size: 57 lbs
  • Color: Fawn, black mask and legs
  • Titles: Accelerant Detection Dog
  • Personality: Handler focused, very trainable, strong desire to please. Very friendly with handler; not especially social otherwise (though if the handler is out of the room she’s happy to attach herself to a substitute). EXTREME hunt drive. This dog won’t quit.
  • Drives: Hunt
  • Hips: OFA Good
  • Elbows: 0/0 (normal)
  • Spine: Normal
  • Oria’s OFA Results

Oria is a powerhouse. With muscle to spare and an unequalled hunt drive, she is the strongest detection dog I’ve ever seen. Her intense sniffing pattern and refusal to quit is really something to see. Her trainability makes her excellent in obedience, with a beautiful focused heel and eagerness to learn something new. She’s not a dog to mess with as she has a serious side. Even so she’s incredibly biddable. She goes out on the retrieve just as emphatically as she comes back. She does everything 110%. For such a stout, strong, high drive, serious dog she almost never requires correction. She’s incredibly handler focused. She is my favorite to work with in obedience.  I’ve been told she probably should be a dual purpose police K9 somewhere, but sorry, I’m too attached! Oria is an accelerant detection dog and is my partner in a special detection dog project (to be revealed later: stay tuned). She’s also training in tracking and IGP.

Vetruv

Missal Arcadia

  • DOB: 2021
  • Size: 54 lbs
  • Color: Dark fawn with black overlay, white stripe on chest
  • Titles: Just getting started!
  • Personality: Drivey, sweet, always moving, curious, strong will to please
  • Drives: Hunt, prey, ball/toy
  • OFA Results: Pending

Missal Arcadia “Harlock” is a keeper from the “A” litter. I always loved her stunning looks, sassy attitude, and desire to work. She’s currently in training as a live find SAR K9 and is just rocking it. She’s also starting her competitive obedience career in 2024, and will be shown in conformation in 2025. She is also showing a strong inclination for tracking and I’ll get her on the field to trial as soon as she’s ready, which seems like it will be soon! Harlock is just fun to have around. She is neutral to her surroundings, accommodating, and has a strong desire to please. She’s affectionate and pushy, and is always noticed for her striking looks, dark pigment and signature white stripe. Harlock has the talent to do anything at all.

Non-Breeding Dogs

Ruuska working

Ruuska

Ruuska was my very first Malinois, the one that started it all! She is my validated USAR Live Find SAR dog; one of only 57 in the USA. She passed her USAR CT with such ease the evaluators told me next time I didn’t need to come; she could handle it all on her own (luckily she needs me to drive her there, so I still have a job). She has a strong les Betulacees presence in her pedigree and she is the dog who inspired me to contact Theo Berkers for my next pup (that pup was Roy). And I’m so glad I did! Ruuska is a favourite of obedience judges, who find her delightful and are quick to hold me responsible for her shenanigans while forgiving her (the perpetrator, may I remind you) completely. She is a bold, friendly, confident, althletic, driven dog with outstanding, precise agility on the rubble pile. Her outstanding beauty is just icing on the cake, but does win us extra points at validations. Ruuska achieved her Canadian Kennel Club Grand Championship in conformation with me as her owner-handler; at which point she retired from the conformation ring to chase an OTCH in obedience competition while now working in USAR. She currently has two CD titles, an RA, a Canadian CDI, and an AKC CDX. Ruuska has also earned TD titles in both the USA and Canada. Next year: Utility! I am so privileged to be this dog’s handler.

Talvi

Talvi

Talvi is in large part the inspiration for this breeding program. Talvi is very dear to me. Another beautiful long haired Malinois, he was purchased as a SAR prospect and potential BIS show dog; unfortunately I purchased him from a disreputable breeder and both of us have paid the price. Talvi has a myriad of severe health problems including epilepsy, autoimmune illness, and eosinophilic IBD, and sadly cannot be used for the purposes for which he was purchased. I still compete in sports and train in detection with him, because he is a good worker and loves his jobs. Talvi was the first tracking dog I ever trained, and despite having to tolerate all of my mistakes, experiments in tracking, and general cluelessness, Talvi has become what his last TDX judges described as “a real tracking dog” and “the perfect tracking dog who ran the perfect track.” Talvi needs only a VST to achieve an AKC Tracking Championship – hopefully we will achieve that in 2022! He is also a Canadian Kennel Club Grand Champion conformation dog and recently made a stunning AKC obedience competition debut, taking High in Trial with a score of 197 – and then following that up the next weekend with another High in Trial, winning the heel-off handily. The judge complimented him, telling me “his heeling is STUNNING.” He earned his CD with three first place scores in a row. Because of his health problems he will never be used as a breeding dog, but I will continue to trial and compete with him and will validate him in a civilian detection job (I’m thinking bedbug detection – ewwwww).
